Thanks jayg, but how does one manage this? That kb article said "The one exception would be a user who intends on using MacSpeech Dictate on only one computer at a time, such as a desktop Mac at home and a laptop computer while traveling. " Yet I cannot get the software registered on my MacBook as whenever I enter the registration code, I am informed that it has already been used . I know that - on my desktop machine! So how can I make this product mobile?

Generally, I can get Mac Speech to work pretty well. In fact, I am using it to dictate this question. This means I have a reasonably good understanding of the basic uses of the product. However, wearing having a problem, is with MS Word for Mac 2008. I cannot get any dictatorship at all to be recognized. Have you had this problem? Do you know what the solution is?

In addition to being successful with this note I have been successful using the product with Mac Mail and the Dictate notepad. So, my belief is that the problem has more to do with MS Word than it does with my understanding of how to use. Please let me know if you've experienced this problem and if you have any recommendations for solution.

Thank you very much

I am using MacSpeech Dictate version 1.5.9 and my current “hack” for accessibility is to use Growl and set it to use the speech display option to announce choice one in the recognition window.

I recently upgraded to Growl version 1.2.1 and now after each block of recognized text I hear “recognized text” followed by the text itself. I keep my recognition window open at all times.

I realize that this is a problem with Growl but what in the world do I tell them? I was hoping I could get used to it/ignore it. Just not happening. I really do need this feature.

One interesting thing to note is that when I look at the Growl settings for MacSpeech Dictate I noticed that the only notification is named “recognized text”.

TIA,

Thank you for this. Info is hard to find on mac scribe! Can you identify some reasonably priced recorders that record in mp4? The descriptions on many of the products on the web don't say. I bought one direct from nuance and it only records in mp3--usable with pc version but not mac. frustrating!!

Unfortunately, I do not have the microphone that came with MacSpeech any longer; only this Sennheiser microphone.

I'm not running any of the background software/processes you noted.

I have thought about anything and everything that might be going on in the background with relation to this underlying conflict.

My setup is pretty simple, as far as software is concerned: I just have Safari, QuicKeys, Microsoft Excel, and Photoshop running in the background (meaning, the vast majority of the time). That's it.

At present, the microphone seems to be working normally. No noise, no static, no interference. But this could change at any minute… usually does.

This iMac is fairly new (less than a year old), so I'm thinking it's probably not the iMac itself, i.e. the USB port itself.

If you have any other thoughts/ideas, please pass them along. I will attempt to hook up another microphone situation as soon as I can in order to rule out the Sennheiser microphone and/or the USB connector.

(BTW, I plug the Sennheiser microphone into this USB pod/adapter: http://www.andreaelectronics.com/Buy/ProductDesc/USB_Adapter.htm) The representative of the small company that sold me this new USB adapter said he has never seen one of these go bad–never. So he highly doubts it's the USB adapter.

Thanks for any and all input!

If you say "Show Available Commands Window" it will show a list of available voice commands for the active applications (as well as global commands and dictation commands that are available anywhere/anytime). Use the search box to narrow down your choices: e.g. type in "Reply" to only show voice commands with the word "Reply" in them.

This problem only continues to get worse.

I would say that a good 70% of the time, I'm losing the ability for voice input with MacSpeech.

Sometimes restarting helps; other times it doesn't make any difference. (But I would say that the majority of the time, restarting solves the problem.)

However, because I also have Fusion installed (for use with NaturallySpeaking), I have discovered that it affects the use of Fusion as well. So obviously it must be an underlying system problem.

However, every time I go to the System Preferences >Sound settings, I find that the USB microphone I'm using is listed and everything seems to be functioning properly. Yet no input through MacSpeech or NaturallySpeaking.

If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem, please pass them along!

By the way, I'm using a Sennheiser ME-3 microphone.

There is a Vocabulary Editor which you should take a look at. However, it only allows you to add and/or train words (and very short phrases). There is not a way to delete built-in words. You can train "problem" words so Dictate/Scribe know exactly how you pronounce those words.

Is there a way to delete problem words from the built in dictionary like you can in dragon naturally speaking?

I use Dragon at the moment for work. I dictate inventories on properties, and it is pretty accurate. But it's windows only, hence why I am trying to move to Scribe.

The problem is that it insists on transcribing wrong words even after numerous attempts to train it, for example:

Ceiling comes out as seeling
Door to... comes out as daughter

these are words Iam never going to use and in Dragon you just delete them and you don't have a problem again.

Any thoughts??

Mac audio and PC audio input are different, so the ratings do not necessarily apply across platforms.

MacSpeech Dictate requires a USB microphone. MacSpeech certified microphones are noise-canceling and designed for speech recognition. Others may work, but have not been officially tested by MacSpeech (and MacSpeech technical support doesn't not have a copy to test with).

Hi - I had the software transcribe an 8 minute clip. The transcription had many errors, which is fine. What I want to do is be able to play down the clip and make corrections. It won't playback. I've used every possible command in the directions. Is this possible to do? Like, play a few lines and correct them and then play a few more etc, the way the training works? then I'd want to copy all the text into another document. Training doesn't allow me to copy a large block of text after correction but only little sections. thanks.

The German version (international) can be tested for 4 days. I tested it and it's great for my needs.

Is there a way to do voice training by reading documents that I have already created that use my style of speech to increase accuracy?

Out of the box, I'm finding that intelligent automatic spacing only puts one space after a period (or equivalent punctuation, like ! or ?) and before the beginning of a new sentence. Is there a place to change the default on this, so that I get two spaces, per normal grammatical convention?

Is there still no fix?

Having problems with the plantronics dongle (BUA100) on iMac 27" i7 and MacSpeech Dictate version 1.5.9. The dongle simply doesn't work. Got a substitute dongle (plantronics BUA200) which doesn't work, too.

Is there any advice? As I'm not the only one facing the problem, I'd really be grateful for a solution that works.

When I load Dictate, it works beautifully - for about 8 minutes. Then it starts lagging more and more. If I don't shut it down and restart it at this point, it quits and gives me an error message. Is there any way to fix it? It takes 2-3 minutes to load, and doing that every ten minutes is a real time-consumer. TIA for any help you can offer.

When training the software, I enjoyed the interface where I could replay a section of text to be positive that I got it right. However, when doing transcription, as soon as I "accept" a transcription option (even a corrected one), "Play" no longer works.

In my research I found the following $10 software to convert .wma files to .wav .aiff or .mp4. You can tell your Olympus to save in .wma rather than .dss
